Introduction
"Red Before Black" is the 14th studio album from American death metal band Cannibal Corpse! It's a work brimming with pride as they've been unwavering guardians of death metal for 30 years!
Cannibal Corpse is an American death metal band. In fact, they're a true embodiment of the death metal genre. Though often associated with the Florida scene, they originally hail from Buffalo, New York. Formed in 1988 by bassist Alex Webster and vocalist Chris Barnes, the band released their eponymous demo the following year and quickly rose to prominence, signing with the prestigious Metal Blade Records. With the release of their debut album, "Eaten Back to Life," in 1990, Cannibal Corpse was instantly revered by fans worldwide as a rising star in the death metal world. It's no wonder, as the album's impact was immense. The album's artwork and lyrics are so bizarrely grotesque that it was no surprise that the album was banned in Germany and other countries. Chris Barnes's emotionless vocals were also unlike anything anyone had ever heard before. Even death metal fans familiar with Death, Morbid Angel, and Obituary were astounded by this completely new worldview.
With their arrival, death metal reached a new level of brutality. After releasing "Butchered at Birth" (1991), "Tomb of the Mutilated" (1992), and "The Bleeding" (1994), the band moved to Florida, the mecca of death metal. In 1995, they fired Chris Barnes and replaced him with George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher of Monstrosity. They continued their successful career, releasing a total of 13 studio albums, up until 2014's "A Skeletal Domain." All of their work is unwaveringly styled in a way that can only be described as "death metal." Not a single album is an exception. For 30 years, Cannibal Corpse has taken pride in the death metal genre and continued to lead the scene.
And now, their 14th studio album, "Red Before Black," is finally being released in Japan. It goes without saying that the content is death metal, as usual, Cannibal Corpse. There was apparently a new concept of "introducing slow, doomy elements," but no matter how you listen to it, it's still typical Cannibal Corpse. Heavy, tight, and brutal. From the music to the lyrics and artwork, it's pure, bloody death metal. There's no way Cannibal Corpse will disappoint their fans. They are a death metal band through and through.
"Red Before Black" is filled with the pride of a band that has remained unwavering guardians of death metal for 30 years. They are the Motorhead and Ramones of death metal. If you want to hear death metal, listen to Cannibal Corpse. [Includes Japanese commentary booklet/lyrics translation]
