Amazon Review
The "ANIMEX 1200" series packs nostalgic anime theme songs and BGM into a collection at the attractive price of ¥1,200 (excluding tax). This album is a remastered version of the 1983 release of the original TV BGM collection from the 1972 robot anime "Mazinger Z."
This work, considered a landmark in robot anime, was composed by Chumei Watanabe, who also worked on many Super Sentai series. The heroic opening, "A castle of iron towering in the sky...," is famous, but upon relistening, it's a very stylish piece that effectively utilizes brass. The score, too, is undoubtedly a major factor in the continued relevance of this robot anime today, thanks in large part to the high quality of the music. In addition to the TV-length opening and ending themes sung by Ichiro Mizuki, the album also includes three insert songs. (Gokichi Wakasunya)
