The Anshan-class destroyer was the first destroyer donated to the People's Liberation Army Navy by the Soviet Union.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, the PLA Navy acquired four Gnevny-class destroyers from the Soviet Navy, and the Anshan-class was named after the first ship.
This class underwent extensive modernization around 1970 and remained in service until the 1990s.
