This product shattered the notion that watches are fragile jewelry that needs to be handled carefully, and was the result of Casio engineers' challenge to create the world's toughest watch. With a triple protection design for parts, modules, and case, it offered a groundbreaking new type of wristwatch that was unaffected by strong impacts and vibrations. Its practicality was quickly recognized, and its unique appearance, embodying its functionality, became immensely popular, leading to explosive sales in the early 1990s. Soon after, G-SHOCK incorporated various new sensors, solar-powered radio control technology (explained below), and new materials to further improve its durability. By constantly utilizing the latest technology and continuing to go beyond conventional ideas about watches, the G-SHOCK brand has become Casio's flagship watch product.
