To search for these gimmicks, players explore their surroundings using the mysterious swallowtail butterfly, the Black Swallowtail, who accompanies the boy. Activating the gimmicks changes the shadow, allowing players to move forward. The boy's "shadow weight" is crucial to his adventure. If his shadow weight reaches zero due to enemy attacks or a fall from a high place, the boy will lose all strength. Each stage is also home to a "Watching Eye," an entity essential to clearing the stage. Collecting all three will unlock the path to the goal.
