Electro-Harmonix ABOUT Electro-Harmonix
Electro-Harmonix was founded by Mike Matthews in October 1968. Their first product was a fuzz pedal called the "Axis Fuzztone." Later, they collaborated with Bob Meyer, a former Nobel Prize-winning engineer at Bell Labs, to create the original linear power booster, the "LPB-1." Despite being available only through mail order, this model became a huge hit, helping to establish the Electro-Harmonix brand. This was followed by the release of the legendary "Big Muff" in late 1969, and in the 1970s, they released a string of still-popular models, including the Small Stone and Memory Man, which enjoyed strong sales. Despite the company's success in the 1970s, the company faced labor union and parts supply issues in the 1980s, resulting in bankruptcy in 1984. Mike Matthews then traveled to the former Soviet Union and founded a new company, New Sensor Corp., in 1988. Under the "Sovtec" brand, the company has made a comeback as a comprehensive music equipment manufacturer, producing a succession of products including vacuum tubes, effects pedals, and amplifiers. In 1991, the company regained the Electro-Harmonix trademark, which it had once lost, and in 2002 returned to its New York base, where it continues to deliver unique effects pedals to players around the world.
Making the sound of a classic more affordable Electro-Harmonix founder Mike Matthews had always heard from tone enthusiasts about a pedal they couldn't afford: the legendary Klon Centaur overdrive. He tasked his production team with creating a pedal "that was affordable and accessible to everyone," and the result was the Soul Food. Modeled after the Klon Centaur, this overdrive pedal is designed for tone-conscious players who value the sound of their instrument, and can also be used as a clean booster. It offers a wide range of sounds, from a sweet clean boost and a light distortion that lets you express your touch to a powerful overdrive that brings your sound to life. Increasing the gain to saturate the amp can also produce a better distortion sound. The Soul Food will take your sound to the next level, no matter your playing style or equipment, without compromise. Responsive, natural overdrive sound. DRIVE Control Knob
This knob adjusts the input gain. As you turn it to the right, the overdrive changes from a clean boost to a more intense overdrive. Try out different settings to find your favorite sound. The DRIVE knob changes distortion, while turning it to the right emphasizes the midrange. Bypass Mode Switch
Removing the back cover, you'll find the bypass mode switch on the bottom right of the circuit board (see image). When set to True (top), the switch is true bypass. When set to Buffer (bottom), the signal passes through the buffer circuit. The factory setting is True. In True mode, the INPUT jack and AMP jack are directly connected when bypassed. In Buffer mode, the signal passes through a high-quality buffer circuit when bypassed and is output from the AMP jack.
