2. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
Product Introduction The Lancia Stratos was developed as the world's first purpose-built machine, and was born as an innovative mid-ship machine with FRP cowls at the front and rear. In the 1970s, power competition in rallies intensified over the years, and in order to win, a lightweight and compact machine with high maneuverability was required. Lancia abandoned the idea of creating rally machines based on conventional commercial cars, and the Stratos was developed solely for the purpose of winning the world's first WRC title. In November 1970, Bertone announced the original Stratos at the Turin show, and in November 1971, he presented Lancia with a second prototype car that introduced a mid-engine layout. The following year, while still a prototype, it participated in various events and matured before entering the WRC. Production of the Stratos began in October 1973, obtained Group 4 homologation in October 1974, and immediately debuted at the Sanremo Rally, Round 5 of the WRC. Stratos remained in the lead from start to finish, showed an overwhelming performance, won the debut race, and won this season's makes title. In 1975, when it entered full-fledged competition, the Italian airline Alitalia became its main sponsor and won the 1975 Makes title. In 1976, its strength remained undiminished and it accomplished the feat of winning the Makes title for the third consecutive year.At the opening round of Monte Carlo, it set a brilliant record of winning three years in a row from 1975 to 1977.The Lancia Stratos is a rally car that represents the 1970s.
