Introduction
This is the perfect way to kick off 2014's girl rock scene!
Dressed in bright red lipstick and black leather, the Dum Dum Girls' latest album is a girl rock masterpiece, featuring sweet, sentimental melodies and a Ramones-esque driving feel!
Produced by legendary producer Richard Gottehrer, who also worked on debut albums by Blondie and the Go-Go's, as well as Richard Hell's landmark album, "Blank Generation."
Dum Dum Girls, the Los Angeles-born girl band who sparked the garage/lo-fi revival and has been described as "Ramones meets Ronettes," quickly made their mark worldwide with their band name, a nod to Iggy Pop, and their edgy, cutesy lo-fi sound. Their third album, this one, sees them relocating from New York to Las Vegas, where they've crafted a masterful album that easily transcends the boundaries of garage and lo-fi. All of the tracks on this album are of such high quality that they could pass for pop songs: M-2 features a fresh electric beat; M-3 sings of the beautiful yet cruel worldview of the poet Rimbaud; M-4 is a classic ballad, a rarity for the girls; M-6 is full of fast-paced energy that lives up to their image; and M-7 is the lead track that was released in an H&M commercial ahead of the album. And the band's icon, Dee Dee, has a presence as a rock singer that no girl rock band has been able to reach for some time. With this album, Dum Dum Girls are now connected to the lineage of girl rock that includes 60s pop, punk, new wave, and riot grrrl. ■Members
