Joe Higgs, the legendary great who taught young Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Bunny Wailer everything from singing and harmonizing to composition and music industry know-how, and who was even called the "Father of Reggae" by Jimmy Cliff, is an essential figure in any discussion of reggae. Peter Tosh's classic "Stepping Razor" was also composed by Joe Higgs. The phenomenal sales of the Pressure Sounds reissue of his debut album, "Life of Constradiction" (BRPS058), are still fresh in our memory. Now, the long-awaited reissue of his second album has finally been announced! Recorded at Aquarius Studios in March 1978, this album includes the classic "Sons of Garvey" (Trk.10), the title track "Unity is Power" (Trk.3), and many other love songs. This magnificent masterpiece transcends reggae, fully showcasing the charm of Joe Higgs, who phrases his voice like an instrument throughout the album. The CD also includes a bonus track: "Invitation to Jamaica," released in 1973 on his own Elevation label and winning No. 1 in a competition sponsored by the Jamaica Tourist Board!
