Thunderbird: The Hokuriku Limited Express
Reaching Mount Fuji on the Hokuriku Main Line and Kosei Line, heading for Osaka!
Operated by the 681 and 683 series, Thunderbird is the Hokuriku region's signature limited express. Thunderbird No. 14, bound for Osaka, departs Toyama Station this morning, heading west through Toyama Prefecture, passing by the Hokuriku Shinkansen viaduct, where construction is in full swing. Passing through the Kurikara Tunnel, we enter Ishikawa Prefecture. The elevated driver's cab offers excellent visibility, and the station premises and wiring are easily accessible. The 14 makes few stops, stopping only at Takaoka, Kanazawa, Fukui, Kyoto, and Shin-Osaka. Passing through the Kumasaka Tunnel, we enter Fukui Prefecture, where lush rice fields freshly planted and wheat fields ready for harvest adorn the line. From Minamiimasho, the train passes through the Hokuriku Tunnel, the AC/DC section, Tsuruga Station, and the Hatahara Loop before joining the Kosei Line at Omi-Shiotsu. It runs straight along the west shore of Lake Biwa and joins the Tokaido Main Line from Yamashina. It speeds along the quadruple track section, stops at Shin-Osaka, crosses the Yodo River, and arrives at the newly renovated Osaka Station.
