This is the third installment in the "Irem Collection" series, which brings Irem's arcade and home console classics back to the latest consoles! It includes seven versions of three titles: "Mister Heli's Great Adventure" (Japan and US arcade and PCE versions), "Magic Guard Gunhoki" (Japan and US arcade versions), and "Dragon Breed" (Japan and US arcade versions). This highly anticipated lineup includes all of these games being ported to consoles for the first time! "Mr. Heli's Great Adventure" is a side-scrolling shooter released for arcades in 1987. To save a planet on the brink of collapse, players pilot "Mr. Heli," an adorable orange helicopter with tiny legs. They navigate a variety of stages, including a green floating island, a moving rock formation, and an underground clock tower, defeating enemies and avoiding obstacles. Collecting crystals along the way allows players to purchase power-ups, and the goal is to fully strengthen themselves and defeat the final boss, MUDDY, lurking deep underground. The game features vibrant, pop graphics and comical characters, which are rare for Irem titles of this period, but the difficulty is high and extremely rewarding. "Irem Collection Vol. 3" also includes the PC Engine version released in 1989. "Dragon Breed" is a side-scrolling shooter released for arcades in 1989. Players take on the role of the protagonist, the young king Caius, and their goal is to defeat the Demon King in the final stage alongside the giant dragon Bahamut. Bahamut's ability to attack and defend depending on the situation, whether riding on the dragon's back to attack with weapons, ramming into enemies with the dragon, or wrapping its long body around the protagonist to protect them from enemy attacks, is the true essence of Irem's shooters, and the presence of Bahamut, who players will soon develop a bond with, is the game's greatest feature. "Magic Guard Gunhoki" is a side-scrolling shooter released for arcades in 1992. The game is themed around a wizard riding a broom, and its colorful, pop, and cute graphics, paired with upbeat music, create a worldview that's unusual for an Irem shooter. However, the game's distinctive Irem feel is evident in its deep, highly strategic game design, with features like "charge shots" to fire powerful spells and "broom shots," in which the broom flies in the opposite direction of a directional input. The game also supports two-player simultaneous play, which was becoming mainstream at the time, and mid-game joining is supported.
