This is a 1/350 scale plastic model of the first Antarctic research vessel, the Soya, which departed in November 1956. This model is released to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Antarctic research expedition (as of November 2006). It recreates the ship's extensive modifications, including the icebreaker bow, that were necessary for the first expedition, using a completely new mold. It also features a Cessna 180 seaplane and two Bell 47G helicopters. Bonus features include a softmetal 1/350 scale snowmobile and a 48-page resource guide, "Souya," edited and published by the Ship Science Museum. This is a plastic model that requires assembly and painting. Tools, paint, etc. are required separately.
